In celebration of his 46th birthday on July 4th, Health Fitness Revolution founder Samir Becic has spent the last 4 and half weeks hiking 464 miles in Aspen, CO! He is hiking 10 miles for each year he’s been alive (10 x 46= 460 miles) with a 55lbs+ backpack- on rugged, steep terrain (up to 47% incline). Now he’s successfully completed all 460 miles- he actually completed 464 miles (747 km)!
Click to read about his experiences Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4. At the start of week 5, Samir had 66 miles to complete.
On Thursday, June 30th, he set out to complete his last 31 miles and braved the moody mountain weather- it was raining and a chilly 56 degrees when he set off. He completed 17.2 miles on “Lost Man’s Trail” and then walked from the trailhead along the road on Independence Pass into Aspen, CO for another 18 miles! His total mileage for his final hike came out to 35.2 miles over 8 hours and 20 minutes. He finally was able to reach his finish line in downtown Aspen at 8:40 p.m. Talk about finishing with a bang (and 4 days before his birthday deadline)!
Here is the Week 5 mileage tally:
Monday: 17.2 miles
Tuesday: 18 miles
Wednesday: Rest day
Thursday: 17.2 miles + 18 miles
Total for the week: 70.4 miles
Today, I FINALLY completed the last portion of my 460-mile birthday hike, with 35 miles over 8 hrs 20 min. I started with hiking “Lost Man’s Trail” (17.2 mi) for the 5th time but it was the first time I was able to reach the 3rd lake…Then, it was 18 miles down Independence Pass. pic.twitter.com/uoTTOzf2Mi

The second part of my hike was down Independence Pass, and another 18 miles in addition to the 17.2 Lost Man’s Trail. The entire hike I carried a backpack over 55lbs and heavy, wet clothing from the persistent rain. I felt the cold in my bones! Total for the challenge: 464 miles. pic.twitter.com/EmmXGeQFsh

I’ve completed 429 miles of my 460-mile 46th birthday goal by July 4th. All have been completed at an elevation of up to 14k ft in Aspen while carrying a 50lbs+ backpack. Even though every muscle in my body is sore, I immediately forget about it when surrounded by such beauty. pic.twitter.com/Yd9iEG3Rh6

The terrain on Conundrum Creek Trail is varied, but when I see an open path, I like to push myself with runs. Today, I enjoyed several spurts of energy despite being sore. I was able to complete the trail in under 6 hours. pic.twitter.com/D8ETDGraVp

This is my third time hiking and running Conundrum Creek Trail (18 miles). This is one of the most scenic trails in the area, I’ve never seen so many shades of green. Today, I also faced a moose eye to eye 👀 pic.twitter.com/1x3PPnRbiW

Yesterday was my 4th time hiking “Lost Man’s Trail,” which is 17.2 miles ( 12000 feet). Finally, I was able to reach the second lake for the first time because the snow had finally melted enough (Fourth times a charm!). Watch the video to see beautiful nature. pic.twitter.com/4N4e1UANt0
